Nowadays, it is widely understood that the term “4:20” refers to a specific time for consuming marijuana, whether alone or in company.<\/p>\n

Similarly, most people also associate the date April 20 (4\/20) with “International Marijuana Day.”<\/p>\n

However, not many people\u2014not even the most seasoned and passionate marijuana enthusiasts\u2014know how or why the number 420 acquired this meaning in cannabis culture.<\/p>\n

Some say 420 was a code among U.S. police officers to report marijuana trafficking or consumption. Others claim 4\/20 is Adolf Hitler’s birthday. Some even go as far as linking it to a line from Bob Dylan’s song Rainy Day Women No. 12 & 35<\/a>, since 12 multiplied by 35 equals 420.<\/p>\n
