the terremoto with a different nutritional profile, standing out for its lower sugar content and half the calories compared to the homemade version.

The recommendation for consumers is to add pineapple ice cream when serving, aiming for a more authentic experience.

Origins of the “Terremoto” Cocktail

The “terremoto” is a Chilean cocktail created in the late 20th century as a variation of the “ponche a la romana.” It is believed to have been named by German journalists covering the 1985 Chile earthquake because drinking it “shook the ground” in the same way.

However, although its origin is unclear—with many claiming its creation—this drink has been widely popularized in Chilean culture by bars such as La Piojera, El Rincón de los Canallas, and El Hoyo.

The terremoto recipe consists mainly of white pipeño wine (semi-fermented white wine), pineapple water-based ice cream, topped with grenadine or fernet.

Depending on the presentation, it has different names: “Cataclismo” (in a large pitcher), “Terremoto” (traditional serving in a ~400 ml glass), “Réplica” (a smaller repeat serving), “Maremoto” (with added mint liquor).
<div id="thebe-139464904" class="thebe-libros-amazon “Ocho punto ocho”

The idea to create a canned version of the terremoto came from a chance encounter between the founders of LOA and NotCo at an entrepreneurship of NotCo, highlighted the speed of the process and the collaboration between the two companies:

What we achieved with LOA is not just a product innovation but also a celebration of Chilean ingenuity and identity.

Exclusive Distribution

The “Ocho punto ocho” beer has been available since Monday in all Jumbo stores across the country. The supermarket chain backed the project by acquiring 100% of the initial production as the exclusive distributor.

Nicolás Forti and Ignacio Cueto, founders of LOA, stated:

We are tiny compared to the other companies working with NotCo’s artificial intelligence, so we couldn’t turn down the proposal

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block; text-align:center;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9395258998211551"
data-ad-slot="1179889612"
data-ad-layout="in-article"
data-ad-format="fluid"></ins>

Innovation and Tradition

With this launch, LOA and NotCo aim to innovate in Chile’s alcoholic beverage segment by combining tradition and technology, offering consumers a practical, safe, and distinctly Chilean alternative.

The “Ocho punto ocho” beer represents an effort to bring traditional flavors into a ready-to-drink format while maintaining the essence of the original cocktail and adapting to new consumption demands, such as reduced calories and sugar.

No se encontraron productos.

We recommend

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9395258998211551"
data-ad-slot="1930811761"
data-ad-format="auto"></ins>

Can’t stand IPAs?
