Cerveza del Puerto, the pioneering craft brewery of Valpara\u00edso founded in 2003, has launched a special canned edition for Club Deportivo Palestino, the historic team of the Palestinian community in Chile, in a collaboration that unites two expressions of identity-rooted belonging.<\/p>\n

Club Deportivo Palestino is not just a football team. Founded in 1920 by immigrants who arrived from the Levant in the early 20th century, the club is the most visible symbol of a community that turned Chile into the home of the largest colony of Palestinian origin outside the Arab world.<\/p>\n

Beer as an Expression of Identity<\/h2>\n

Over 500,000 people of Palestinian descent live in the country today, with a particularly dense presence in Santiago, where second, third, and fourth-generation families keep alive the language, traditions, and memory of a territory many have never been able to return to.<\/p>\n

Chile was also the first Latin American country to recognize the State of Palestine, in 2011 under Sebasti\u00e1n Pi\u00f1era, and later Gabriel Boric as one of the most explicit leaders in condemning the Israeli military offensive on Gaza that began in October 2023.<\/p>\n

About Cervecer\u00eda del Puerto<\/h2>\n

Cerveza del Puerto, for its part, has spent over two decades building its own identity from the port of Valpara\u00edso. Founded in 2003 by Fernando Magnatera and Andr\u00e9s Arancibia, a biochemical engineer specializing in fermentation.<\/p>\n

It was one of the first craft breweries in the country to bet on national distribution and to position Chilean craft beer as a quality product.<\/p>\n

Its first brands, named after pirates\u2014Barba Rubia, Barba Roja, and Barba Negra\u2014reflected the character of the city that saw them born.<\/p>\n

A Jersey That Travels the World<\/h2>\n

To understand the symbolic weight of this collaboration, one must first understand what has happened with Palestino’s jersey in recent years. In 2024, the club sold over 20,000 jerseys worldwide.<\/p>\n

The countries with the highest demand were France, Belgium, the United Kingdom, the United States, Spain, Morocco, and Turkey. None of them has a football team called Palestino or a direct connection to Chile. What those fans were buying was not sports merchandise; it was a statement.<\/p>

The turning point was 2014, when the club presented a jersey with the historical map of Palestine\u2014including the territories now under Israeli control\u2014which generated international controversy and skyrocketed the team’s global visibility.<\/p>\n

The Gaza conflict since October 2023 amplified that process exponentially. The watermelon jersey, whose design rescues the symbol that Palestinians adopted in 1967 when Israel prohibited publicly displaying the colors of their flag in the occupied territories, became one of the most sought-after football items on the planet.<\/p>\n

The Kufiya jersey, launched more recently, allocated part of its proceeds to the Aida refugee camp in Bethlehem.<\/p>\n

Figures such as former footballer Carles Puyol, musician Roger Waters, and Pope Francis have been photographed wearing or holding the Palestino jersey.<\/p>\n

The club has ceased to be a curiosity of South American football to become an icon of solidarity with global projection. In that context, a beer that bears its name is not a niche product: it is an extension of that same narrative.<\/p>\n

Palestino Lager<\/h2>\n

The special edition is marketed under the name Palestino Lager in a 473 cc can format. The 12-unit pack has a launch price of $25,990 and is available through the brewery’s direct sales channel.<\/p>\n

The can adopts the club’s colors and visual identity, turning the product into an object with symbolic value beyond its content.<\/p>\n

The Palestino Lager is part of a line of collaborations between Cerveza del Puerto and professional Chilean football clubs.<\/p>
