With this membership, AECAI reinforces its commitment to defending independent brewing culture and diversity in the sector, joining an international collaborative network across the European continent.

The decision to join IBE was approved by the AECAI Board of Directors following a series of prior meetings with European associations that shared the same concern: the growing concentration of the beer market in the hands of large corporations and the need to strengthen the craft and independent sector.

Mateo Sanz, President of AECAI, emphasized:

We have been exploring the possibility of a European association for some time, and after meetings with our counterparts in Germany, Italy, Austria, and others, we have taken this crucial step. We believe this union will allow us to raise a stronger voice in defense of our brewing culture.

A Common Front for Independent Beer

Founded in 2024, the Independent Brewers of Europe was established to combat the false perception of diversity in the beer market created by large multinational corporations.

Its mission is to protect the authenticity of independent beer, inform consumers about the reality of the sector, and promote the independence of small breweries.

The alliance already includes associations from countries such as Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Austria, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Poland, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic, and remains open to the incorporation of new members.

By joining IBE, AECAI strengthens its commitment to Spanish independent brewers and aligns itself with key European initiatives, such as advocating for a fairer market and fighting against unfair commercial practices that affect small breweries.

For the President of AECAI:

Independence is essential to ensure the diversity and quality of beer. Being part of this alliance will allow us to work more effectively in defending the interests of our members and contribute to a fairer future for independent beer across Europe.
