AECAI Joins the Independent Brewers of Europe Alliance

The Spanish Association of Independent Craft Brewers (AECAI) has announced that it is joining Independent Brewers of Europe (IBE), the alliance that brings together associations of independent brewers from across Europe.

With this membership, AECAI strengthens its commitment to defending independent beer culture and diversity in the sector, joining an international collaboration network across the European continent.

The decision to join IBE was approved by AECAI’s Board of Directors following a series of earlier meetings with European associations that shared the same concern, namely the growing concentration of the beer market in the hands of large corporations and the need to strengthen the craft and independent sector.

AECAI president Mateo Sanz highlights:

We had been exploring the possibility of a European partnership for some time, and after meetings with our colleagues from Germany, Italy and Austria, among others, we have taken this fundamental step. We believe this union will allow us to raise a stronger voice in defence of our beer culture.

A common front for independent beer

Founded in 2024, Independent Brewers of Europe was created to fight the false perception of diversity in the beer market generated by large multinationals.

Its goal is to protect the authenticity of independent beer, inform consumers about the reality of the sector and promote the independence of small breweries.

The alliance already includes associations from countries such as Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Austria, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Poland, Switzerland and the Czech Republic, and remains open to new members.

By joining IBE, AECAI strengthens its commitment to Spanish independent brewers and joins key European initiatives, such as advocating for a fairer market and fighting unfair commercial practices that affect small breweries.

Independence is essential to guarantee the diversity and quality of beer. Being part of this alliance will allow us to work more effectively in defending the interests of our members and to contribute to a fairer future for independent beer throughout Europe.
