To kick off this top 10 list of the world’s best-selling beers, it’s worth noting that in 2020, the combined sales of these beers generated an impressive $688.4 billion in revenue.

In recent years, there has been a significant shift in the rankings of the top-selling beer brands. The growing popularity of beer consumption in China has been a major driver of this change, given the sheer number of Chinese consumers.

The 10 best-selling beers in the world
So, which are the best-selling beers in the world? More importantly, which beer holds the title of the world’s best-selling beer? What are its primary markets? These are some of the questions we will explore below.
1. Snow
Topping the list of the world’s best-selling beers is Snow, which commands 5.4% of the global market share. Despite being primarily sold in China, where its price per liter is around one dollar, Snow has achieved remarkable success.

Founded in 1994 in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province in northeastern China, the name “Snow” was chosen due to the thick, white foam head the beer produces when poured.
2. Tsingtao
The second best-selling beer globally is Tsingtao, another Chinese brand. Unlike Snow, Tsingtao is sold worldwide and holds a 2.8% market share.

Established over a century ago in 1903 by German brewer Jurgen Jakobsen Block, Tsingtao was the second brewery founded in China.
The beer is known for its clear, transparent appearance and low carbonation. In China, it is commonly served in 640-milliliter bottles alongside a glass of ice.
3. Bud Light
The third best-selling beer in the world is Bud Light, the lighter counterpart to the popular Budweiser (which ranks next on this list). Bud Light accounts for 2.5% of global beer consumption.

Compared to traditional Budweiser, Bud Light contains less sugar and fewer calories, with an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 4.2%.
4. Budweiser
Ranking fourth on the list of the world’s best-selling beers is Budweiser, the most internationally recognized American beer, with a 2.3% global market share.

In 1870, American Carl Conrad discovered a remarkably smooth beer in the small village of Budweis. Upon returning to the U.S., he registered the brand using the recipe he acquired.
Budweiser is a refreshing amber-colored beer sold in over 80 markets worldwide.
However, in some European countries, the beer cannot be sold under the name “Budweiser” due to a long-standing legal dispute with a Czech brand that shares the same name.
5. Skol
The fifth best-selling beer globally is Skol, which holds a 2.1% market share.
While many assume Skol is a Brazilian beer due to its popularity in the country, it actually originated in the United Kingdom in the late 19th century.

Originally popular in Europe, Skol gradually lost its market share there and expanded into new markets outside the continent.

6. Yanjing
The sixth best-selling beer in the world is Yanjing, with a 1.9% global market share. This Chinese beer was established in 1980.

In 1995, Yanjing was honored as China’s official beer, served in the Great Hall of the People.
It is known for its thick white foam and slightly bitter taste.
7. Heineken
Heineken ranks seventh on the list, with a 1.5% global market share.

Founded in 1864 by Gerard Heineken in the Netherlands, the brand has grown into one of the most popular beers worldwide. It has an ABV of 5% and a slightly sweet flavor.
8. Harbin
The eighth best-selling beer globally is Harbin, which also holds a 1.5% market share, tying with Heineken.

Known as China’s oldest brewery, Harbin produces a refreshing beer that Chinese consumers often enjoy with ice. It has an ABV of 4.8%.
9. Brahma
Ninth on the list is Brahma, with a 1.5% global market share, tying with Heineken and Harbin. This beer is particularly popular in Brazil.

Founded in 1888, Brahma is owned by the multinational brewing company Anheuser-Busch InBev. It is a pale golden lager with a classic, neutral aroma.
10. Coors Light
Rounding out the top 10 is Coors Light, with a 1.3% global market share.

This Canadian-origin beer has an ABV of 4% and is known for being light and refreshing, with low calories. It is popular not only in Canada but also in the U.S. and the U.K.
