Technology knows no limits, so sooner or later it was bound to gain a foothold in the growing and profitable craft beer phenomenon.

MiniBrew is a device that promises to make brewing beer as simple as making a cup of instant coffee in the morning.
Unveiled in March 2017 at the SXSW festival in Austin, in the United States, MiniBrew is an interesting blend of hardware, software and delivery service created by a Dutch company. In 2026 it is still on sale as the MiniBrew CRAFT, now in its third generation.
How Does MiniBrew Work?
Using an app, you select the type of beer you want to brew (you can even create new recipes); then you order the ingredients, which are shipped to your door within a few days.
The process is simple. You load the ingredients into the machine’s different compartments and program it from the MiniBrew app to start brewing, a process you can follow at any time from your phone.
In about four hours the wort is ready with no need to keep an eye on it, although fermentation takes several more days.
How Long Does It Take for the Beer to Be Ready?
According to the manufacturer, fermentation takes between 3 and 30 days depending on the style, and an IPA is usually ready in less than two weeks. During that time the machine controls the temperature, something that at home usually calls for a temperature controller such as the STC-1000.
Once the beer is ready, all you have to do is connect the SmartKeg to the dispensing system and you can start drinking your homebrew.
Homebrewing is more and more popular, although it can sometimes be tricky to pull off, especially if you live in an apartment.
MiniBrew promises to make the task easier by providing the tools and the advice needed for every keg to be brewed perfectly.
What Has Happened to MiniBrew Since 2017?
The company was founded in Utrecht by Bart van de Kooij and Olivier van Oord. It funded its first prototype on Indiegogo in 2015, where it raised about 310,000 euros, and in May 2017 it closed a 2.45 million euro investment round to start mass production.
In June 2020 it applied for a suspension of payments in the Netherlands, but it never went bankrupt. The administrator allowed it to restructure its debt, by the end of that year it had secured new funding and it kept selling its machines.
How Much Does MiniBrew Cost?
In October 2026 the official MiniBrew website sells the CRAFT Gen 3 for 999 euros, and ingredient kits for about 6 liters start at 20 euros. At launch it cost 1,199 euros.
The brand sells in about 50 markets, mostly in Europe, plus Australia and the United Arab Emirates. There is no official distribution in Latin America, so it has to be imported from there.
