Argentina will celebrate the first Women Brewers Day on Saturday, September 5, 2026, a date promoted by the Colectiva de Cerveceras y Birreras de Argentina together with the Cámara de Cerveceros Artesanales de Argentina (CCAA) to recognize women’s contribution to craft beer.

The date has been set for the first Saturday of September each year. The proposal aims to make visible women’s participation in areas ranging from production and laboratories to training, communication, tasting, and business management.
2 tributes that connect history and present
The choice of date has a double historical component. One of the tributes is directed to Hildegard of Bingen, a German abbess, scientist, and naturalist who lived between 1098 and 1179 and documented the properties of hops and their use in brewing, making her a figure linked to the history of this beverage.
The second tribute is to María Fernández Preisegger, known as “La Galle,” an Argentine brewer born in Daireaux, Buenos Aires province. A teacher, biotechnologist, and environmentalist, she was one of the pioneers in developing an inclusive gluten-free craft beer project at her brewery Ninka, and her career is today a reference within the Argentine craft beer movement.
Women’s participation in the industry
One of the data accompanying the initiative is the CCAA’s estimate, which places women’s participation in activities related to the industry at around 30%, including tasks in production plants, brewing, laboratories, communication, teaching, and tasting panels. The chamber itself clarifies that there are still no official data on women’s participation in the sector.
The aim of the new date is not limited to recognition. The organizations promoting it also seek to encourage the entry of new generations of women into the activity and to expand their presence in technical positions, decision-making spaces, and leadership roles, in line with the professional recognition spirit also pursued by the new edition of the Women in Beer Awards.
Collaborative beer for the first edition
One of the distinctive elements of the celebration will be a collaborative Grisette-style beer, brewed at Madre Tierra brewery through a collective brew.
Grisette is a historical style originating from the mining region between Belgium and France, characterized by its relatively low alcohol content, high carbonation, and presence of herbal and citrus notes.
The brewing took place on July 28 at Madre Tierra brewery in La Plata, in an activity led by women linked to the sector. The beer will be available in cans and kegs during the September 5 event, as part of the actions aimed at establishing the new date within the Argentine beer calendar.
Federal agenda for September 5
The first edition of Women Brewers Day will have a federal agenda, with collaborative brews, tastings and guided beer tastings, presentations of new styles, brewing courses and workshops, visits to factories and breweries, and open meetings to promote the work of women in the sector.
The activities will be led by women brewers and will seek to combine celebration, training, and professional outreach.
The beer landscape in Argentina
The new recognition comes in a sector mainly composed of small businesses. According to a CCAA survey, 7 out of 10 breweries produce less than 10,000 liters per month, and 3 out of 4 sell directly to consumers, without intermediaries.
The size of the teams also reflects this structure, with 74% of breweries operating with seven people or fewer, including their own partners. This is a relatively young industry that is also going through a moment of declining consumption, with the central half of the surveyed businesses having started operations between 2013 and 2018.
The survey also allows observing which varieties have the greatest commercial presence. Blonde Ale, Golden Ale, and Pilsner appear among the three best-selling styles in 90% of the breweries surveyed, followed by American IPA at 64%, APA or Session IPA at 48%, and Honey at 38%.
