The series follows journalist and writer Michael Jackson as he travels the world in search of the best beers, educating viewers about their origins and styles.

My name is Michael Jackson, but I don’t sing or drink Pepsi; I drink beer, and that’s how I make a living. I travel the world tasting beers and writing about the ones I like. It’s tough work, but someone’s got to do it…

This is how each episode of the series began. This Michael Jackson (1942-2007) gained worldwide fame in beer circles in 1977 with the publication of his most famous book, “The World Guide To Beer,” translated into over ten languages and still regarded as one of the foundational books on the subject.

1. California Pilgrimage

Michael Jackson visits the renowned Anchor Steam brewery in San Francisco and a hop farm in Napa Valley.

2. Best of British

Michael Jackson delves into one of the world’s beer capitals, where a family-owned brewery fights to remain independent, and also visits a traditional British fair.

3. Bohemian Connection

This journey takes viewers to Prague—considered by many as the birthplace of modern brewing—where Michael Jackson shares his knowledge of the region and the unique brewing methods that define it.

4. Germany – The Fifth Element

Michael Jackson travels through and explores German beer culture, one of the world’s largest beer-consuming nations, which was already beginning to demand stronger flavors and new brewing techniques.

5. Burgundies of Belgium

In Belgium, Michael Jackson seeks out the mysteries of local beer and its tradition of vibrant colors—a country that takes its beer very seriously, not just for drinking but also for food pairing.

6. Holland – Our Daily Beer

Michael Jackson visits historic Amsterdam and the famous Heineken brewery, then continues to a Trappist monastery, where monks explain they brew beer “not just to refresh the body, but to sustain the soul.”
